One of the major considerations before purchasing your beautiful Leonberger is how much the little buddle of fluff (who grows to a very big hairy monster) is going to cost in the long term…..

 

The following details the average costs you can expect during the life of your Leonberger; it assumes that you are lucky enough to have your beautiful companion for 10 years:-

 

1.            £1,000     Purchase price

2.            £400      Vaccines throughout your dog’s life (a debatable point whether the boosters are needed or harmful)

3.            £2,400     Average vet bill @ £240 per year costs; assumes 4 visits per year @£60 per visit (includes for worming twice per year)

4.            £3,000     Insurance costs @£25 per month

5.            £4,200     Food costs @£35 per month which is a 15kg bag of good quality dry food per month.

6.            £800      Kennel costs for holidays @10 days per year @£8 per day.

7.            £500      Miscellaneous costs such as shampoo, brushes, collars, cages, fences, bedding etc etc.

£12,200   TOTAL

 

This is over £1,000 per year, or approximately £100 per month!

 

If you are contemplating breeding your lovely girl then you will need to add the following:-

 

7.            £600      One-off Hips/Elbow tests; plus Eye tests for each year that you wish breed

8.            £500      Scanning & Vet bills for each pregnancy

9.            £500      Litter box, worming, food, disinfectant, bedding etc etc.
