We are very sad to announce the passing away of our oldest Estrela Mountain Dog, Kenya aged 11 years and 2 months. She had been deteriorating rapidly for the past year, losing her sight and her legs not as strong as they once were. She had a series of strokes last week which rendered her unable to walk with no sense of balance, so we had to make the decision to let her go……
Kenya was a remarkably tough and independent dog, a true Estrela, she would have been quite at home living a life on the mountainside of mid-Portugal protecting the sheep from the wolves ….. just what the breed was designed for all those hundreds of years ago. She showed her resilience and endurance during the numerous mountaineering trips she did in her lifetime with her lifelong companion, Simba.
We have put together a few photos of her experiences in the mountains please click here to view and you can now read her obituary in In Remembrance….Rest in peace our Kenya…..

We now have four of our lovely ladies in season, India, Alaska, Lightning & Storm. That is the definition of chaos! All excitable, jumping on each other, mock matings with each other, mock foreplays …. You name it and it is happening ….. All with Thunder, Simba & Finland drooling across the fence!
We have had a successful mating with our Storm, with a magnificent Hungarian champion called Lancelot Vom Matthiasberg . Travelled down to the Lionslord Kennel in Berkshire, where he is staying with his owner, arrived at 8:30pm, left at around 1am next morning to arrive back home at 4am!
Many thanks to Anita and Nigel at Lionslord for their hospitality and assistance during the evening with the mating. Storm was slightly perturbed at first by the sight of their life-size stone Lion statues at the front of the house, but eventually realised they weren’t moving …... after about an hour!...she tried to act big and tough and growled a bit at them, then realised she wasn’t scaring them so she carefully skirted around them with her tail between her legs and ears back!!
Once she had got used to her surroundings and relaxed, she was amazing for her first mating. For the next few days we had never seen her so calm and relaxed about everything as she normally has her fingers in every pie! Fingers crossed that she has taken and the mating was successful…..
Her stud, Lancelot Vom Matthiasberg, has had a very prestigious show career.
These are his very impressive titles and show successes during his illustrious years:-
